More

We are all meant for a better life than this
We are all deserving of greatness
We should however be thankful for what we have
Grateful even to have so much
Though we are not

We are richer than we know
We have more than we need
Yet none have truly understood
But those who no longer need
Though money be tight
And time too short
Life itself is as plentiful as anything
Full of wonder and magic
Not just tears and pain
A child's cry of laughter
A sunset on the hills
Even painted cows in the fields
The magic and richness of life surrounds us
But through our despair we do not see
We no longer lie in the grass like children
Seeing shapes in the clouds
We no longer dream of what we'll be when we grow up
Of sight and sounds and smells
Of places far away
We no longer take delight in a simple daisy chain
But we should, you should, I still do
Though I am grown now
I still feel like a child
There is so much to see and hear and smell
And I delight in all
Even the cows in the field
Each new day brings something new and wonderful
And I shall be here to wonder at the richness of life
And the joy of living with not without
Why don't you open your eyes one day and join me
I'll be the one lying on the grass looking at the shapes in the clouds

The Eagle She Soars

A wisp in the mist
A shadow in the moonlight
Spreading her wings
Lifting up into the sky
Lighter than air
Clearer than sunlight
But solid as earth

She carries herself as only she can
A dreamer with hopes to spare
A worker with dreams to share
Tall and proud she walks with me
Straight as the breeze in the willows
She tells me of wonders above the clouds
And promises to show me one day
I know who she is
Yet I don't know her name
She is beauty and peace
Hope for us she brings
As she reaches for the sky
She looks down at me
And sings her love for life
Her hopes for a brighter day
She soars higher and higher
Racing the wind
To settle on her nest at the highest peak
On the tallest mountain
The eagle watches her world spread out below
And waits for her young to emerge from their shells
While her mate searches for the next meal
To tide her over till the next time comes
When she can come down and tell me
Of life above the clouds

Little Bit Broken

Broken doll, shattered dreams
Pain that runs too deep
Little girl so all alone
Crying out only in her sleep

Monsters trail so close behind
The past too close to flee
The fear inside
Too big, too real
From neither can she ever be free

The trust is gone
The hope withered
The love twisted and shameful
The family she never had
And never will
Makes looking to the future
Much too painful

Plundered childhood, stolen innocence
Futures turned to dust
We carry on
Those who can
Surviving, only because we must

A child here
A monster there
A dirty little secret
A generation lost that night
A promise no one cared to keep

They were all so young
So full of life
Now you were just alive
We keep our pain locked up inside
And our past so close behind

Broken souls, shattered lives
A heart that can find no peace
Memories that never end
Regrets that never cease

The Fading Shades of Paradise

White, creation, new hope, new future
Endless life
Raise the hand to shade the eyes
Darkness encroaches
The future dims
Grey, the shades of winter
Of summers lost, of futures unseen, unheard, unborn

Green, new growth, new life, new hope
Aqua, pure water
Emerald, the colour of the waves
That brings the future to us
And with them brings the shadows
Brown, the colour of the foam as it washes onto the sand
Black, the colour of the death it leaves in it's wake
Slate, the colour of the future as we walk the beaches
Covered in the black death of pollution
The refuse of our despair
The whales and dolphins who used to sing
Now cry out in sorrow for the waste
The violent violet shades of sunrise on the brightest summer days
Through the russet shades of sunset on the dawn of always
The needles glint their deadly smiles
The sewage perfumes with malodorous air
The waste of generations that build up through time
As the future, like shadows in the darkness, disappears
Those are the fading shades of paradise

Living And Dying

I've seen and heard a million stories
I've watched it all go down
I've seen the lights
And lived the darkness
In this dirty town
I don't know where to go
I don't know what to do
All I know for certain
Is how much I need you

I've climbed the highest highs
I've fallen to the depths
I've watched the world go by
From the safety of my nest
I've tried to laugh
I've only cried
All alone in this nightmare
I finally died

Tomorrow is another start
When all I need is end
This life of try and fail
Has left me no choice
But to see what's round the bend
I don't want to know
I really don't want to see
But no matter what I want
I need you here with me

I've lived and died a million stories
I've felt it all fall down
I've searched for light
Only found the darkness
In my lonely town
I don't know what went wrong
Or what I have to do
But somehow, somewhere
I will find you

Light and Freedom

For tomorrow over the wall
We'll fight
We'll climb
We'll fall
For the sunshine on our skin
We'll walk forever
To the light
Of a day in freedom
For the birds free from cages
Gilded though they be

The freedom of the ages
Of time not yet forgot
Of time for you and me
Searching for the gateway
Through the wall of hate
Trying to reach the other side
Before our time is gone
For tomorrow edges closer
And night almost be dawn
Now someone reached a hand down
A foothold did appear
The top is almost in sight
The wall is nearly past
Sunlight getting brighter
In the golden blue up high
Rain is fading fast
Clouds scudding across the sky
Away from our future
Our today over the wall

Somewhere

It's dark out
Somewhere up there
Hidden above the clouds
The stars shine
The moon glows
But that is somewhere up there
The radio plays lonely songs
From a station somewhere else
Heard but unseen
Felt but not thought of
But that is somewhere else

People talk, play, love and fight
Somewhere out there
Weaving lives from silken threads
Acting out their parts
In a show for ages
But that is somewhere out there
Each move is choreographed
To perfection or near enough
Each line written
Before time began
Each role made for someone
But that is still somewhere
Where I am not
And the darkness is still there
