Heroes, Pirates, Maidens and Romantic Notions

We listen to stories
Of days gone by
Era's of romantic notions
Where has the romance gone
We imagine heroes on white chargers
Dashing pirates on on the open sea
And fair maidens rescued by love
We look at life and wonder
At the starkness of our times
The men with scowls on their sun toughened faces
The slaves of wage and poverty
The women bowed down by life
We wish for dashing heroes
Swashbuckling sea captains
And beautiul innocent damsels
The times have changed
But the dreams remain
Romance still abounds
In our imaginations
Feeding off each other
Feeding our hopes of a passion left undiscovered
Buried in our deepest hearts
We close our eyes and imagine
Arms closing about us
Strong yet gentle
Banded yet softly holding
Caressing our senses
Tender words whispered in our ears
Passionate love made with abandon
Sunlight dancing on the waves
As we sail lovetossed oceans
Then we open our eyes and gaze in wonder
At the grey skies and the concrete world we live in
But still we will dream of romance
Heroes, Pirates, Maidens
Of days gone by
And of stories told of us when we become
Era's of romantic notions
