Afganistan Women

Equals
That's what they really were
Standing, living, fighting beside their men
Laughing, loving, dying for themselves
When war came, they stood
Together as equals
How did it come about
They now shy away from life
They hide their faces
Because they are told to
Doctors, nurses, teachers no more
Lawyers, painters, mothers now slaves
These strangers that once were powerful women
Cowering beneath the boots of men
Men from across someone elses border
Overnight their peace and equality was lost
The women now beg for scraps
After the men and dogs have eaten
The wives flogged for presumption
Children raised to hate and scorn their own mothers
They are the life givers and nurturers
But the cry of "Evil" resounds
If they so much as look in a mans eyes
Or show an inch of skin
From Equal to Evil
How did it happen
And who the hell are these men
From foreign lands, to say this is so
